Hi, I am a very dedicated and committed teacher, who loves teaching clarinet playing and sharing musical ideas while interact with my students. In May 2019, I graduated from the Juilliard School with a master degree under Mr. Anthony McGill, the principal clarinet of the New York Philharmonic, who I have been studying for 6 years. Now, I am studying with Dr. Robert Spring and Dr. Joshua Gardner at Arizona State University, where I am also a teaching assistant. Read More

I custom-tailor my lesson plans for each individual student based on a variety of factors such as prior playing experience (if applicable), student's desired goals and outcomes, student availability, etc. A typical first lesson with me will be spent going over what goals you want to achieve and how I can best serve you in reaching those goals by working with you to develop an effective plan of practice. In addition, I will share the knowledge and expertise I have gathered from my teachers and my own musical career to ensure that you have all of the tools and resources you need to start seeing the results you want. I like to have a balance in my lessons between fun and challenge. I do this by setting realistic goals each week for my students, dependent on their level of perfomance and the pace that they are progressing. Not everyone will progress at the same pace, and I feel that it is more important for a student to master a particular lesson than to move quickly through the lesson book. Read More

My ultimate goal as a teacher is to create independent musicians capable of creative thinking and musicality long after they have left my studio. While reading the notes and rhythms is obviously important, understanding why those notes, rhythms or markings are in the music will help students develop and learn musicianship skills that are often overlooked. Providing students with performance opportunities and sharing my passion for music help students stay encouraged and become creative and independent thinkers not just in music, but other areas of life as well. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began to my internship and student teaching at elementary and high schools around the valley. I like to include my students' opinion when planning their lesson curriculums. I don't believe in lesson plans that don't allow flexibility and providing the students with opportunities to pick repertoires they are interested in. I've also found that using technology and fun music games the iPad as well as performing along with students can go a long way in helping students to stay motivated and continue to learn. Read More

For younger students who are in a school band program, I like to use the materials they use in class and to add outside material they find interesting. I find students are more motivated to practice and develop when we start with something that interests them, and then to expose them to other styles of music later on. For older or more advanced students, I like to focus on aspects of musicianship that will help them be successful musicians, such as ear-training, theory, composition, performance practice, improvisation (if the student wishes) and transcribing.
