I love teaching and sharing the joy of music with others! In 2011, I graduated from University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor's in Percussion Performance. I've performed all over the world on cruise ships and touring with artists. I've played in numerous bands in the Los Angeles area of all genres. I also compose music for television shows. -I've taught lessons for 10 years. I've taught 5 and 6 year olds, middle and high school aged students mallets and drum set, and even congas to seniors! My philosophy for quality music education has three main parts: appreciation, practice, literacy. In no particular order... 1. The first part is exposure/appreciation of different musics, cultures and styles: The loving of music This includes: Active listening skills, genre playlists, history of solo repertoire/composers 2. The second part is the practice/performance of music, instruments, and vocally: The doing of music This includes: Physically clapping rhythms, singing, playing, performing, improvising 3. Read More

I began teaching about five years ago. I mostly have taught younger students, and I love to watch them learn and develop a passion for music. I like to look for fun ways to keep students motivated. I like to use lots of humor while I teach because I think learning should be fun, and music is an amazing art. I work with people of all ages on my worship team, and I love helping both people young and old continue to grow their knowledge and love of music. Read More

My methods vary on the student and subject. Beginning students will typically focus more on technical pieces of music to improve on certain aspects of a few pieces to perform. More advanced students will still practice technical parts of their music, but less time will be spent on it during a lesson. Advanced level students will spend more time on repertoire and performance. The more advanced a student gets, the more I expect them to practice outside of lessons and apply their newly learned technical skills into their music on their own. Read More

Hi there, my name is Cory and I teach drums and guitar! I am a musician, a teacher, and an audio engineer, which all greatly contribute to the success and progression I see in my students. I began playing the drums when I was just 10 years old, and they quickly became my first love in the world of playing and creating music. I took private lessons much like what I now offer my students for years until I began playing in bands and progressing on my own. Read More

I adapt my methods to the needs, goals, and learning styles of each of my students, but for a child student who is just beginning lessons, the teaching process usually goes something like this: First, I get my students to have a basic handle on the names of the drums, counting, and playing a basic 4/4 rock groove. Next, I get them playing along to a simple rock or pop song. Read More

I am a dedicated musician and teacher beginning my fifth year in Portland. My background is multi-disciplinary: on top of my musical coursework I hold degrees in poetry and language. I am a songwriter as well as an instrumentalist and composer. I believe creativity and originality are very valuable parts of musical expression that sometimes get overlooked! I have more than three years experience playing in local bands, and I am well-versed in the Portland music scene (though I continue to add to my knowledge!) Read More
