I encourage regular practice and help build problem-solving skills because in the end, you are your own best teacher. Since every student has different goals I like to plan my lessons accordingly. I found it very useful to devide the lesson into 3 parts : Technique, reading and drumset studies. Whether the student is excited about rock, pop, jazz, hiphop or samba, this method creates a solid foundation for the drummer's ultimate goal - to groove on the drumset! I have been an band and orchestra director for several decades and was director of  the brooklyn college big band for 4 years as a grad student.I am quite familiar with concert band,  jazz orchestra & symphonic as well as pop music repertoire .  I have a background of 8 years in percussion ensembles as well as having studied afro cuban, caribbean and indian music. I currently teach guitar, piano, saxaphone, clarinet, drum and percussion classes to children from 5-17 years olden have also taught a few children with autism and ADHD.  I can teach general music appreciation, history, theory, ear training,  and courses re: american music. I can conduct jazz band, symphonic, orchestra, rock band, pit orchestra or percussion ensemble classes as wells perform in musicals as pit drummer.  I  have had 40 years experience performing and directing orchestras in many music genres from broadway pit orchestra, big band jazz, pop,rock, latin, symphonic, military, percussion ensemble and more.  I love music and have performed in all kinds of music events from pop, symphony, opera, rock, big bands, broadway shows and national tours. I've learned through experience that being too strict can contribute to a student loosing interest in practicing, so my teaching style is in the sweet spot. I push my students to always improve but I still remain patient and adaptable to different student situations. I'm always supportive and excited for my students as they grow and find their own performances and build a strong repertoire. A students happiness and success is most important to me so I'll always be a friend and make sure they're doing alright so that they can overcome obstacles and so that we can work around problems together!
