My teaching style is very simple. We will begin by finding the interests of the student. Then we’ll identify what they like about the instrument and their basic knowledge. Once that is done, we’ll begin experimenting with different generes. And finally, we’ll create a plan that will allow them the chance to grow musically and fundamentally on the drums. I began teaching over the summer of 2010. While attending Berklee, I had countless one-on-one and small group sessions with fellow drummers where we would bounce ideas off one another and give each other "mini lessons," breaking down specific grooves and licks. In October, 2014, I led an hour-long master class for other Berklee percussion students about advanced polyrhythmic concepts and applications. In 1983, I attended The Guitar Institute of Technology and studied privately with Frank Gambale, who formalized the single line "sweep technique" on guitar. While in L.A. I also studied with Ed Mann, longtime Frank Zappa percussionist and teacher at Cal. Arts.
