I firmly believe that, as a professional musician, it is obligatory to teach and pass on the knowledge of your craft to others who are seeking the knowledge. I have been a full time performing artist my entire working adult life (since 1995). I have traveled the world performing with artists in the worlds of Jazz, Afro-Cuban, Rock, and even EDM. I’m one of the lucky few who have been able to support a family as a professional working musician. Read More

I think the most important part of teaching is developing a positive mentoring relationship to the student. My favorite teachers always went above and beyond to not only educate me on their favorite subject, but also to show me life lessons along the way and listen to my problems. Ultimately I know that not every one of my students will become a professional musician, and that is okay! I do want them to develop a positive relationship with rhythm and music, and an ability to enjoy these things in anything they listen to. Read More

I've been teaching since my first few semesters of college when my step-father (also a drum instructor) asked me to consult for him with his drumline at Arch Bishop Wood High School in Pennsylvania.  From that experience I began teaching private lessons throughout college.  Immediately after graduation I began teaching in a formal music school in Ardmore PA where I was able to teach students from ages 4-60 years old. I draw attention to the importance of listening and help the student identify what to listen for. There is nothing more frustrating than practicing a particular fill 1000 times, only to later realize you've been practicing it incorrectly. This is very common among drummers young and old, but is easily dealt with by simply cultivating a sense of listening and apt imitation. However, I do not endorse perfectionism as a means of effective learning either, and I also will remind the student of the fact that sometimes when you're jamming, even if what what you're playing is not perfect, it's "good enough for rock and roll." This is part of the attitude of rock and roll that I feel is conducive to better, faster learning: a willingness to make mistakes, acknowledge them, learn from them, and move on. Read More

I'm a Brooklyn based drummer and instructor who loves to teach. In 2015, I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies with an emphasis in drumset performance. I was afforded the chance to work with and learn from many great musicians and notable jazz drummers such as Jeff Hamilton, Matt Wilson, John Riley, Jeff Coffin, etc. I have led many gigging bands, and have a lot of experience playing out and working with other musicians. I always create my own custom lesson plans for my students that are tailored to each student's individual development, needs, and musical taste. A really important starting point for all of students is knowing what kind of music they love. I like to help my students develop a list of "goals", pieces, songs, styles, etc that they want to play and work up to, and I use this to create our lesson plans. Read More

As a multi-instrumentalists, I use a cross disciplinary approach even when a student is only learning one instrument. I do make use of method books for beginners, and the specific book depends upon the instrument, but I have my own methods and materials which I utilize in my lessons. Building a repertoire is encouraged, and I use the material to assist in instructing in theory and musical communication. My students are taught to be self-sufficient, by way of practice, study, and cultivating an "ear." Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
