In college have had the opportunity to work as a music instructor to a studio with over 20 students on a weekly basis. The students ranged in age from 5 to 70. This gave me a good perspective on how to directly connect with each student to ensure that we are exploring the best concept of learning for the individual. My experience takes me straight out of high school. I have been a drum tech at West Johnston High School since Fall of 2015. Since then I've risen in the ranks and have taken a much bigger role. In between all of that, I've all taught at Wake Christian Academy as Percussion director for about a year. For beginning students, I typically start with materials from Mel Bay or Hal Leonard. Once a student has completed this, I begin to offer materials that are more specific to the musical genre that they have stated interest in. As a student progresses, I work to expose them to a variety of techniques with a focus on helping them to develop their own unique voice on their instrument. I was born in Ukraine in 1977. At the age of 18 I was introduced to one of the"jazz guitar greats" who taught me theory and improvisation. Those lessons lit a fire inside me that has only grown stronger with time.I founded the band, Shykina, in 1997 and toured Europe for the next 6 years, releasing 3 albums.
