As drum instructor, I taught beats, fills, song structure, technique, and kit-setup, to a group between the ages of 7 and 14 in the summer of 2016 with the "Girls Rock Camp Houston", a non-profit organization. I volunteered to an additional guidance position as a "Band Coach" in 2016 to a group of young teen students. Both groups of students performed at a private and public recital where they all created songs based on the techniques taught during the course. Read More

I am full of energy and love learning as much as I can, but I also understand that full and in depth skill requires time and a certain level of patience and consistency. I relay this to students by repetition (specifically of principles), though I keep it fun and exciting by varying the application. Once the principle is fully grasped, we move on. I also give light, yet fun x22homeworkx22 assignments to keep the student engaged and thinking about music outside of the lesson. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. Read More

For beginners, which is mainly what I've taught so far, I try and see what their goals are and teach them accordingly. Both students I've taught have had entirely different goals, one just trying to learn drumset and the other wanting to learn a song for his talent show. The first, I taught using my own books that I have learned from, and the second I taught by just going through the song slowly, taking it apart, and learning it section by section. Read More

my teaching experience is admittedly small, I've been giving lessons part-time for about a year now. the only way I will learn to become a more effective teacher is through real world experience. although my experience is low, I am confident I can help you or your child become a better musician. I've been playing long enough to know what works and what doesn't. My passion to elevate my craft has led me down paths of learning that few people travel. my excitement and love for my instrument results in a level of professionalism that will garner the results we seek. Before teaching I was always sharing ideas and my approach with my peers and anyone who wanted to listen. My jump into teaching music as a job started after high school teaching drum lessons at Music & Arts and All About Music & Arts in the Houston area. After teaching at Marching Percussion camps for Memorial High School and Waltrip High School among others I decided to go back to college at Blinn in Brenham. Read More
