After we have established the basics on the kit we start to work on rudiments, reading, grip (we will come back to grip a lot,) dynamics, and fills. I always try to provide purpose behind elements in a lesson, an explanation as to WHY we are working on something and HOW it will be used. I have been teaching since high school. Being a part of a rigorous music program at Timber Creek High School offered me opportunities to learn with successful percussionist, like Brett Kuhn. My teaching style encourages meticulous time keeping and a good feel. The student will learn to count while drumming and also keep real time as in seconds and minutes.
