Most of my experience with teaching has taken place while traveling on the road and helping individuals prepare for recording sessions. However for more than 10 years now, I've rendered my services at neighborhood schools (elementary and high school); music workshops; private homes; and local churches; working with young people as an assistant teacher, private music teacher and/ or teaching artist. Orally, aurally, and any methods visually, including reading music, drawings, etc, I teach in a way that reaches the student at their level of ability or aptitude. I usually do NOT use books, sheet music, or anything written, other than the notes and illustrations I provide and any notes that the student wishes to take. I'm an experienced instructor and drummer from Silver Spring, Maryland. I have been playing the drums since age six and I have been teaching drum lessons since I was fifteen. I have preformed and recorded with many different bands of many different styles of music throughout my musical career. Steve is originally from the Binghamton, NY area and began studying drums at the age of 12 with local jazz musician Tony Monforte. He participated in the All State Orchestra and was placed on the Pro-Mark Honor Roll for young, up-and-coming drummers. Steve received a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY where he studied with Gordon Stout, Steve Brown, and Robert Bridge. He was selected to participate in the Henry Mancini Institute where he worked with some of the leading jazz, film, and classical musicians and composers from around the world including Terence Blanchard, Bud Shank, Christian McBride, and Jerry Goldsmith.
