As an educator, it is important for me to not only see my students learn and become better musicians, but thrive and have a good time doing so. For a student to learn music, they have to not only want to learn the instrument, but be inspired. Because of this, I will be lenient with the amount of work and the amount of practice required, as to be flexible with the students schedule and choices. Read More

Everyone is taking music lessons for different reasons. There is no correct path to teaching when each student wants something different out of lessons. Some want a laid back hobby to develop and have fun with, while others want to compete and become professional; and I adapt to each students goals and wants. I like to start my students off with a strong foundation. I like to use books written by flute players such as Trevor Wye or Moyse, instead of standard band methods. Read More

I enjoy sharing my passion for music with people, and I find that in teaching all different ages that I my understanding of my own technique deepens as I find many ways to communicate the same concept. I have a Bachelors of Music in both Voice and Flute Performance from the University of California at Santa Cruz, as well as a Masters of Music from the USC Thornton School of Music. Read More

My lessons are very structured in style and format. Scales, exercises and method books will be the basis of every lesson. With intermittent lessons on musical theory along the way, the student will begin their technical foundation. Regardless of whatever genre of music the student's interests may lie, I provide the technical instruction to make it possible. As time goes on, I then allow students to pick their own music for us to work in class. Read More

I teach my students to keep a regular practice routine to keep them progressing smoothly and actively engaged. I like to motivate my students with little rewards like stickers and pencils to keep them encouraged and motivated too. I get to know my students and their musical interests to try to include music they really like to make it fun for them. I try to not make it too easy for them so that they don't lose their motivation, but not too hard so that they get overly frustrated and quit trying. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
My teaching style is based on an open system, which allows the student to express their ideas and concerns about the topics covered in each lesson, in order to build the educational strategy that can best benefit the student. As an professor, the educational development of each student will always be a priority, but as a musician I recognize that there are activities that can facilitate this work, such as collaborations between different students to perform chamber music, collaborations between the student and the teacher to play musical duos during lessons, among other activities that keep the student interested and curious at all times.
