From there, I usually focus on fundamentals while I try and figure out where they are as a player and cater my instruction to what I discover. I have most students start with Essential Elements for fundamentals.  Then I progress to solo and duet repertoire when the time a student is able to grasp counterpoint and rhythm well.  Adult students can often move faster due to being able to understand the math behind music.  I also try to incorporate theory and history and culture with my lessons. This wonderful experience reaffirmed my belief that anyone, regardless of age or ability, can learn to make music.
