I began teaching private lessons eight years ago during college. By the end of 2015 I had a studio of over 30 students. I tend to focus on developing a student's sound concept first, so that they can get a beautiful sound out of the instrument at an early age. I also encourage students to play ear-training games and develop an independent melodic sensibility early on. My students have excelled in audition-only honor's ensembles, All-State Bands, band assessments, and some have even written their own songs and performed in recitals. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! So I hope to help every student develop at their own pace. I encourage this by realistically setting specific goals for each student at each lesson, making sure I am as clear as possible to help encourage this in any way. I also make myself very available for answering any questions any student might have, as well as working outside of the lesson to try and find the best way I can help each student. Read More

I started teaching privately when I was in high school. After graduating with my masters from Yale my interest and love of teaching has grown and become an essential element of my career. While at Yale I worked as a Teaching Artist in two New Haven public schools. I taught private lessons as well as coached chamber ensembles and ran sectionals. I worked at a summer music festival for middle school and high school students for the past two summers. Read More

My greatest joy as a teacher is seeing students fall in love with music and find great joy and fulfillment playing their instruments! I pay close attention to the student's experience and tailor lesson content and goals to match individual needs and learning styles. I aim to cultivate an atmosphere of encouragement, commitment, inspiration and motivation that keeps students wanting to spend quality time with their instrument and learn to play the music that they most enjoy. I had a very unique opportunity to be mentored by the legendary drummer/bandleader/NEA Jazz Master Chico Hamilton. I spent a lot of time with him on and off the stage. I was observing and loving all of these moments on tour and in the studio. I learned so many things from him, most importantly what it means to be a teacher. In order to teach, one should never stop learning. Read More

As explained in my teaching style, every student is different and thus I adapt my approach depending on that. This being said, some of the books I use depending on level for flute students; for the beginning students "Trevor Wye - Beginner's Book for the Flute" for advanced to very advanced students the "Etudes Et Exercices Techniques pour la flute" By Marcel Moyse. All while going through a variety of flute repertoire that keeps the student inpired. Read More
