"The art of teaching is the Art of assisting discovery" - Mark Van Doren My teaching method is always geared towards to my students goals. I know that the best teacher is able to identify what exactly needs to be paid attention to in your playing to take you to the next level. With these ideas in mind, the lesson are built from a combination of what the final goals are, and what needs to be developed to get there. Read More

I have been teaching and performing professionally since 1998, and I can't think of anything else more enjoyable than sharing the joy of music through teaching and live music entertainement. My students learn how to play their favorite songs while learning how to read music, understand tab, grasp some theory, learn chord structure and play some scales for technique building, ear training and improvisation. I am a firm believer in encouragement, positive reinforcement, and the importance of a sense of fulfillment. I believe in the importance of daily practice, both on repertoire (learned by ear) and on basic proficiency with the instrument - scales, chord-voicings, etc. I encourage students to try writing their own music, to listen adventurously, to seek performance opportunities, and, generally, to explore their own relationship to music - as a listener and maker - so that it can deepen and become ever more meaningful, ever more satisfying. I am a goal setter and overachiever so I like to work with the student to set goals that will not be discouraging. I believe that learning how to play an instrument/sing with others in an ensemble setting helps reinforce what we work on in the lesson. As a multi-instrumentalist, I enjoy finding songs we can eventually play together while implementing technique and structure. I’ve done everything from covers, to song writing, to singing operatic repertoire in 5 different languages. Read More

My teaching style changes a bit depending on the student's age and experience. I find it very important to tailor the lessons to help reach the student's goals. Witha lot of studentsI have found much success in teaching with song examples and forms. Rhythm and groove are topics that I stress while learning and playing songs as well. Read More

My experience as a music educator started in high school when my band director sent a few middle school bass and guitar students my way, at which point I discovered a great love for teaching. Since then I have taught several electric and upright bass students throughout my time as a Berklee student, as well as rhythm section master classes. I'm experienced in teaching students of all ability levels in subjects such as technique, rhythm/ear training, sight reading, music theory, and composition. Read More

Technique as well as theory are equally important. It is also important to have fun while learning. I like to use the Hal Leonard lesson books combined with excersises that I have created. I can also teach songs requested by students and explain and demonstrate how theory and technique apply to the tune. Improvising and playing along with other musicians in songs or jams is highly recomended. Understanding what each student wants to get out of the lesson is important. Read More
