Music has been my passion from a very early age. I have learned through my years as an educator that sharing this passion with others is just as rewarding as personal experience or success. I greatly enjoy performing as much as I can myself but helping students achieve their own personal musical goals has become one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. I look forward to meeting new students and learning about their passions and goals so that I can help them find the most rewarding path possible! Read More

Besides having an extensive career as a performer, I have always maintained 10-30 private students ranging from beginners to professional musicians. I can teach and play almost any style of guitar, and I always teach reading music, music theory, and proper technique along with any particular songs the student is interested to learn. As a University student, I began teaching at local music schools and found that it's a wonderful way to share knowledge and experience, and also to be around youth and become aware of how differently young people now experience music and acquire knowledge. For first learners I like to focus on the basic stepping stones of playing guitar as well as find more about my student in regards to their music preference as well as what they find enjoyable about learning an instrument. Learning an instrument should be fun and gratifying so it is important for a student to be happy learning rather than feel like it is a chore. Positive reinforcement gets way more results than negative reinforcement. Read More

Lessons are usually pretty casual. I like to use a book so that we always have a clear path. Students can request that their lessons be more vigorous (say if you're auditioning for a part or instrument for some activity) but otherwise, I tend to keep things more laid back. Read More

I've had the experience and privilege of teaching students ranging from 5 years olds to adults in their 60's during the past 7 years. The core philosophy of teaching music lessons for me is that inspiration and motivation in a music lesson come from finding enjoyment and reward from the learning process. I've worked with students to develop better sight-reading skills, performance etiquette, improvisation, recording techniques, proper form, and posture, and marketing strategies, to help get your music heard when you feel ready and proud enough to share it with others.
