I find teaching only to be effective if the student is intrinsically motivated to learn more: I like to find a groove or pace that the student feels confident and motivated to practice, and I tailor the lessons to address any problem areas without losing their attention. I find short excerpts of lesson material to be the best way to teach. Short and sweet! Phase 6: Fingerpicking and Tapping Here we will explore the technique of fingerpicking. The student will use all the fingers on their right hand to the fullest extent and be able to play lovely music of many genres. We will also explore Finger Tapping, a style which uses both hands on the fretboard. This will help with electrifying solos as well as interesting acoustic solo pieces. Phase 7: Advanced Soloing and Improvisation At this point we have a masterful guitar player and are getting them ready for their big debut at Madison Square Garden :) In this phase we will expand the riffs we have learned into full length solos. For young beginning drum students, I begin with stick control exercises on drum pad. I teach music notation. They will learn how to read drum music as well as some general music theory that will help them to understand universal music theory a well. I teach the styles of rock, pop, folk, blues, and jazz style as well as marching band style.
