Instruments: Piano Violin Viola
I have been teaching violin and viola for the last six years. My main goal is to make sure that student is having a great time learning how to play an instrument while making sure the student understands good practice habits. I want to make sure that the student has fun in their lessons and I make it my main priority. If the student wants to learn jazz, I am well versed in jazz and can teach jazz. Read More

I have been teaching music off and on since I was in college. I have also been a music director/choir director/organist/pianist at a number of different churches, starting when I was nine years old. I also enjoy working with community theater groups, having served as pianist for many shows including Oklahoma!, Guys and Dolls, Annie, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, South Pacific, Charlie Brown, The Velveteen Rabbit, and A Day In Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine. Instruments: Piano Cello Music Keyboard
Depending on my student's age and skill level I usually have them begin with Suzuki books, Essential Elements books, or a combination of the two. As students advance I often incorporate etudes and/or exercises by Lee, Dotzauer, Galamian, Mooney, Sevcik, Duport, and Popper. While ear training is an essential skill that I teach to all of my students, the younger a student is the more I'll have them "play by ear" instead of reading sheet music. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet
Clarinet: Any beginning band method book, Baermann, Klose, Voxman. At advanced levels I will use appropriate repertoire and advanced method books tailored to the student. Saxophone/flute: Any beginning band method book or standard beginning to intermediate woodwind book. Appropriate repertoire. Piano: I use most beginning methods, including Alfred, Bastien, Piano Adventures (Faber), and other standard piano methods. I use those appropriate to age, goals, and learning style (for instance, chord methods are sometimes better for adults). Read More
Instruments: Piano Acoustic Guitar
I believe in a hands on approach. Although I do use books to help reinforce and practice music concepts, I find that children learn through doing, so I use a hand over hand approach. I believe that one does not learn unless one wants to learn and therefore see myself less as a teacher and moreso a creator of an environment in which the student is able to teach themselves. Instruments: Piano
My methods, practices and philosophies are first to get to know the student. What are their goals, expectations, likes/wants/needs, etc. - as I get to know the student, I will tailor the teaching materials to them. Whether it is Leonard, Bastien, Alfred (I have used them all), an eighth note is an eighth note, but you can play an eighth note in pop, rock, classical, jazz, show tunes, etc.. Read More

I move at whatever pace is appropriate for the particular student. We set long-term goals so they have something they are working towards and are rewarded for hard work. Learning how to play the piano is about so much more than just the piano! The benefits reach far beyond music, helping them with school, self-confidence, and many other aspects in their everyday life. Although we do follow a method book for at least the first few years, we add additional solo music, and I let them choose from several level-appropriate pieces so that they are enjoying what they are learning.
