I started out as a percussionist, studying throughout high school and in to college at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. During my time in Boston, I discovered a bustling bluegrass music scene and my focus switched to stringed instruments, namely the mandolin and the violin. Since College, I have been using all veins of traditional music to join in and build communities of artists. I'm very well connected in the New York City Bluegrass, Irish, and Jazz scenes. Read More

Over the years, I have developed a way to help students to arrive at answers to their own questions. The ultimate way to really grasp information is through our own discovery. I believe that every musician, no matter what level, should have a game plan as to what they are going to practice/achieve throughout the day, the week, the month, etc. We will develop skills to make practicing efficient and enjoyable. I like to get to know what type of music interests my students, see what makes them excited. I then center my lessons around what they like. This makes them more invested in learning guitar if the focus is on their interests. Read More

Often I do use Mel Bay or Hal Leonard books to get a student started reading, but try to shift to popular music as soon as possible to keep the repertoire interesting and relevant for the student, as well has their families and peers. As the student develops, students will learn to expand on these ideas with theory based improvisation to "make the song their own." For More Advanced students, we can work from the Real or Fake Books, or the Ireel App to increase improvisational experience and confidence. Read More
