Seeing a student thrive and succeed is the number one goal for a teacher. Understanding the student is important to me, as it would greatly help me in producing an effective and practical lesson plan. In my experience, rewards in accomplishing small tasks goes a long way for the student. Read More

Music is my life and I don't know what I'd do if it wasn't teaching. I do private lessons both in person and online. I have students of all ages, 5 - 45. I've been doing this for seven years. I specialize in practice techniques and NYSSMA prep. It's funny I don't believe in bad music. Beauty is in the eye (or in this case the ear) of the beholder. There are many ways to love music, and there are just as many ways to learns music. Read More

More than a decade ago I began giving music lessons in both private and group formats. It was an unexpected "diversion," but a very natural fit! My experience as a music teacher started in High School, where I taught guitar in both English and Spanish to younger students from my school. Through that experience, I began to enjoy seeing students progress, develop a passion for the instrument, and in-part, become inspired by taking my lessons. In college, I had extensive experience as a tutor to peers and leading big groups of musicians. I am now exclusively a private music and instrument teacher in NYC after spending some years as a school music teacher. Read More

Keeping the joy of making music when we practice is essential for steady progress. When possible, I will combine the giving assignments focusing on various topics (i.e.: theory/reading skills, ear training, technique, repertoire, improvisation...). I like to work on repertoire because that is where you find examples that later on will appear on-stage, what I call "real musician life experiences." I consider myself a lifelong student so it is a great joy to me learning when I teach. Read More

For beginning guitar students depending on age, I use two books: Hal Leonard Guitar Method, and the FJH Young Beginner Guitar Method. For more advanced students, I use he Berklee College of Music books. We begin with simple finger exercises to build finger strength. From there, first position chords, strumming patterns. Songs are used to teach different techniques of rhythm, melody and harmony. Listening to music of the specific song that is being learned, takes part in the lessons. Read More
