I began playing electric bass at 14 and started a band at 15. We won 1st place in NMHS Battle of the Bands and at 16 we recorded out first album and had our first performance on the radio. By 17 with busier schedules and our drummer leaving the band fell apart and I began looking into ways of doing things solo. I invested into a loop station and got into Jazz and Classical music. I currently teach music part-time at two Montessori elementary schools in the Southeast Valley which include after-school music classes and private lessons. I am the Worship Pastor at RPFChurch in Tempe, AZ where I play guitar and direct the worship team. I love to share my passion for music with every student and encourage them to enjoy playing their chosen instrument. I am also involved in reforming music education by writing methods and curriculum which make music fun, accessible and relevant to all ages. Read More

My teaching style is fun and laid back. I want students to see their potential by playing the music that they love. If a student wants to learn Taylor Swift, then we will learn the things to help that student achieve those goals, and they will be able to do this in a relaxed setting with a teacher that understands the difficulties of playing music for the first time. I'm a musician who has learned many styles of music himself, and I understand that there are many avenues for a musician to become a master at their craft. Read More

For all students, I teach them exercises to strenghten their fundamentals and skills in the given instrument, and each lesson we practice the exercises to focus on improving their sound production, pitch finding, placement, and more. We also learn songs that both the student and I choose and prepare for performance (when necessary). Here are the books I work from for each instrument, but please note that I don't necessarily use these for every student, only when appropriate: GUITAR: Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method (books 1 through 3) VOICE: Master Vocal Exercises by Horatio Connell, and Sightsinging (Hal Leonard) BASS GUITAR: Bass Method, (Hal Leonard, books 1 through 3) TRUMPET: Essential Elements 2000, (Hal Leonard, books 1 through 3) Read More

I believe I am a friendly guy at heart, so I tend to be friendly with the students. There are times where I have to tell them, for example, "You haven't been practicing.". But I try my best to do that in love while encouraging them when I see even the smallest improvement. I feel as though the key is to play as much as possible. That can be hard to do when you feel like you don't know how to play. Read More

Nothing is more exciting than seeing one my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. " The slower you go, the faster you'll get there" - John Link Read More

My methods, of course, depend on the student but I usually start using the same materials that I started with. That combined with other curricula such as Rock School and others, I am able to identify which path will be best for the student. Teaching the student one of their favorite songs towards the beginning always helps the student get the fire and passion they need to become a guitar master. Read More
