Right around age six, I discovered that my hands were finally big enough to fret a guitar! I spent the next decade banging away on my own amongst the redwoods north of San Francisco. Bass, keys, mandolin, and vocals soon slipped into my repertoire, filling the space where a proper social life might otherwise have been. I swore to never go pro, lest it ruin the fun. For most of this time, I had assumed that good music died when The Beatles broke up, but in high school I flung my mind open to the stylistic diversity of the digital age. Read More

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! My teaching style consists of instilling a passion for music, and creating enthusiasm to learn in a safe, nurturing environment that welcomes participation, practice and music exploration. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace and is learning things that interest them on a fundamental level. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. Read More

For my string students learning violin, viola or cello I typically use the Suzuki method books. There are times that I might recommend the Essential Elements series for those who are just starting off, but at some point I switch the student over to Suzuki. Another supplemental book I encourage my students to get when they get to a certain level is Essentials for Strings. This is primarily a scale book, but it also contains a number of other helpful exercises and resources. Read More

Instruments: Guitar Voice
I would first establish the level of my student and figure out which direction suits them best to achieve there own personal goals. Someone first starting off , We would first concentrate on finger strength. Excercises that are fun but also help build the neccasary tools. Basic chords , scales , and basic strumming is a good example of where i would start a guitar student. Beginners of voice lessons we would be concentrating on breathing excercises and scales at first. Read More

I have a love for teaching students of all levels and ages. My specialty as a guitarist is in jazz, but I bring that love for improvised music to a number of other styles: blues, rock, funk, acoustic/fingerstyle, country, folk, ska, reggae, RB etc. I graduated from Duquesne University in 2013 with a degree in jazz performance. Pittsburgh is a great jazz town with a fantastic local scene, which was a very fun and nurturing environment for me as a student. Read More
