My main focus of teaching is on the student, and on developing and expanding their existing musical interests. I develop a lesson plan and schedule that begins with the musical interests and passions of the student, their favorite bands, favorite songs and musical styles. From there I take each of their favorite pieces of music and demonstrate how the building blocks of music were used to create each, and how they can not only recreate their favorites, but start to create their own musical identity. I like to think of my teaching styles and methods as very practical yet very encouraging and nurturing. The best way to ingrain a new concept or idea I have found is to teach someone a practical way in how to use it, usually through learning a new song or exercise which expands their horizons and outlook on things. Nothing invigorates me more than to see students get excited when they finally understand or grasp something I have taught them. Read More

Beginning students I will start off with songs they already love and enjoy. I believe there is a certain energy and passion in learning your favorite songs. And I encourage every student to learn the songs they enjoy. I work with a method that takes both beginner and advanced students through each piece of their favorite song. While focusing on customized goal setting for each student. I work diligently to prepare my students for the future, should they want to join a band or write music on their own. Read More

Setting realistic goals is definitely a good place to start. Also, I encourage transcribing music in small sections, and to always start slow and take deep breaths, as this will reduce the student's normal anxiety and has done wonders in my own playing as well. Using a rhythm reference like a metronome or a drum loop while practicing is also a must, at it helps develop the student's groove. Internalizing music by developing the student's ear is also a very important part of my teaching style as Is applicable in any genre (hear it before you play it!) Read More

As soon as I meet with a student or a group of students, I make sure they are welcomed by an energetic teacher before getting started on their lesson. I try to keep the student(s) engaged by showing them different ways and approaches to music from books and my own personal approaches to help them grow knowing their teacher is well experienced. Since their is a lot for a percussionist than just playing with sticks on a drum, there is no doubt that the endless possibilities in teaching students the various instruments will help keep them engaged as well being more excited about music. I continued at Boyer College of Music under the tutelage of an internationally acclaimed jazz singer Joanna Pascale. After moving to Los Angeles, I began a mentorship with Tamara Beatty, who has been a vocal coach on The Voice for 10+ years. After college, I worked as a full-time talent manager in New York City and Los Angeles. Read More
