Ihave been active in the Seattle music scene for the past five years as a drummer, percussionist, composer, songwriter, bandleader, and instructor.I have performed regularly with world-funk orchestra A Cedar Suede, rock quartet SpiceRack andelectro-prog group Spyn Reset. My teaching method consists of a focus on what the student is interested in, using what the student enjoys as a means of developing a comprehensive understanding of music and the guitar. I believe this method keeps students engaged with playing, and makes lessons and practicing fun, rather than feel like a chore. Lessons will deal with subjects such as scales, technique, and music theory. Although they may be tedious, I believe these things are important core elements to really understanding the guitar and music in general, and I would teach them in a way that would be fun for the student. I began teaching private music lessons while I was working on my Bachelor of Music degree. I also was a teaching assistant for guitar classes at the university that I attended. After I graduated I continued to teach privately, at music stores and technical colleges including Lake Washington Technical College. I taught at Bellevue American Music for over twenty years. I started teaching at Shoreline Community College in their musical theatre department, leading vocal warm-ups and giving 1-on-1 coaching lessons to actors in their musicals while performing there myself. One of the greatest honors of my life was spending 2 years training under Juilliard-graduate Charles Enlow while at SCC. Since leaving college, I have worked on-and-off as a beginner-intermediate voice coach and piano/guitar teacher around the greater Seattle area.
