With younger students, I focus on rhythm, simple ear training, and light reading. I will gradually introduce harmony and more intensive ear and rhythmic studies as the student progresses. I think it is important for students to apply their knowledge through performance opportunities and songwriting. I began teaching private music lessons while I was working on my Bachelor of Music degree. I also was a teaching assistant for guitar classes at the university that I attended. After I graduated I continued to teach privately, at music stores and technical colleges including Lake Washington Technical College. I taught at Bellevue American Music for over twenty years. I teach many styles including classical, jazz and modern styles and I encourage my students to explore different genres of music to keep them excited and motivated. Read More

During my schooling in Boston, I studied Alexander Technique and always try to incorporate body awareness when working with students! I enjoy teaching students of all ages! I have taught in the public school for 35 years and have worked with over 5000 students of all ages! I enjoy creating original music in my recording studio and have written many songs. I have played guitar and sang for the Miss Washington program and performed as a solo artist as well as with other musicians. I have a bachelor’s degree in guitar from Wichita State University where I studied with jazz guitar legend Jerry Hahn (Rolling Stone magazine called him one of the top 3 jazz guitarists in the world).
