For beginners, I start with Suzuki school violin and guitar books. Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals I introduce pieces or may have the student pick out a pice they'd like to work on. For more intermediate players I generally try to help them with music they may already be working on and give them studies to practice relevant techniques. One of my earliest memories from my childhood was sitting on my fathers lap banging and banging away on my uncles drum kit. My mother says I was 9 months old the first time I had ever played the drums. I come from a family of musicans. My father was a guitarist ,my mother was a saxophonist and my uncle was a drummer also. I typically start students who don’t know how to read music with Kevin Olsen‘s book called “The Perfect Start.” I then supplement that with my own approaches to teaching to note reading, musicianship, theory, sight singing, and composition.
