Teaching is something that I have always done, in addition to performing. I incorporate fundamentals and musicality with every student, but each student learns differently and has different goals. I do not have a set curriculum, I gear the study to the student, what the student needs and wants to accomplish. I usually will put together a bundle exercises compile of flute methods and exercises I create myself to help the student progress. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. At the age of three, I developed an interest in music, and spent a lot of time with my little keyboard plucking out songs I heard on tv. Luckily for me, my parents recognized my interest and enrolled me in lessons where I learned to read music before being able to read the words on the pages. I continued my lessons for 15 years with a focus in classical music, earning high marks in competitions. Read More

I choose music that will help students in many different areas. Students need some music that will help them work on fundamentals: long tones, slurs, articulations, and scales. Students also need to play music they enjoy. All of my students, in addition to the fundamentals of good playing, bring in music that is enjoyable to play and that they like. I do not provide a strict curriculum. Instead, I form lessons based on student's needs as I feel this is more effective and more personalized. Things that we may explore include; warm-ups, posture, breathing techniques, tongue twisters, learning to read notation, and rhythm.
