Music is not a sport. Learning music takes patience, from the student and the teacher, and time. The joy of music comes from continually moving forward, and ever closer, to the ultimate goal of learning a song or piece and having the confidence to perform in front of family, friends, and even fans. No two students learn the same way, and will never sound alike, no matter how hard they try. Read More

As someone looking to teach professionally, I love to share my knowledge with others. I graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a BA in Music, and am now pursuing my MA in the Humanities, focused in music at University of Chicago. As a musician I've performed at many venues, including Mundelein Hall in Chicago, and The Chapel of Our Lord in River Forest. Read More

Alfred Publishing piano courses (both older and newer), Faber and Faber, Bastien, Edna Mae Burnam, and the Hal Leonard course have all been among my pre-published methods that I have used over the years. I have also adopted some technic content from elsewhere. For example, the Zion Conservatory of Music, where I taught from 2004 to 2018, uses a couple of different customized scale patterns for first- and second-year students. A book I have used with intermediate students is a Conus Russian piano method edited by James and Susan McKeever, who taught the Parkside piano pedagogy courses. Read More

My music backround goes back to my pre-teen days with a toy guitar and singing in front of my second grade class. Formal training began in junior high with the saxophone which continued through high school and my college years at Fairleigh Dickinson University. I became interested in the guitar and played with many groups and ensambles. Then became interested in the violin and fell in love with it. I have been playing for the past fifteen years and teaching for five. Read More

Every student comes at a different level, no matter what age they are. For younger students who are just beginning, I feel like it is my job to first and foremost get them excited about playing the drums. I find it to be difficult to teach anything if the student dimply does not want to be there because they do not have a good relationship with the instrument. Once I feel the student is excited and ready, I usually introduce the "Progressive Steps to Syncopation for the Modern Drummer." This book is important for building skills in reading music, ear training, and general funky rhythms! Read More
