Instruments: Piano
My method of teaching puts emphasis on the keyboard fundamentals that develop sound piano technique. I use a systematic approach in which the student progresses from their present level, whatever it may be, beginner, intermediate, or advanced, to their next level in a reasonable time. For students at the beginning or intermediate-beginning levels, I would choose from the Faber, Albert, Leonard, or Thompson piano methods. I always give the student after each lesson a method of practice for the music/lessons required. Read More
Instruments: Piano Keyboard
Traditional sight reading, ear training, technique, music theory and the basic fundamentals are essential for developing music abilities. I teach step by step and build slowly so the student learns discipline and also become well balanced in music vocabulary. The students starts off in lesson books with an assignment book to help with consistency with daily practice, as the students mature we can also play the "cool" songs! I teach students the mechanics of music and how to teach themselves so they are proficient in all music levels. Read More
Instruments: Trombone Euphonium Tuba
I began teaching private lessons part-time during my undergraduate, and I have worked full-time in education, either as a band director or private lesson teacher, for the past 14 years. As a Bachelor's and Master's student, I honed my musicianship and technique to an incredible degree; as a band director, I learned a great deal about how to connect with and break concepts down for young students. Throughout both periods, my students have found success, with several placing first or second chair in All-Region auditions and earning Outstanding Soloist in solo contests. Read More
Instruments: Voice Acoustic Guitar
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student gain confidence in their voice. Singing can be very scary especially at first, but it is my passion to be a cheerleader of the singer. Singing is mostly a mental game, and my passion is to fight that one first. One can have all the technique in the world, but if they don't have confidence, musicality is thrown out the window. So, I primarily focus on giving the student a safe place to make mistakes grow and learn and feel comfortable to explore. Read More
Instruments: Violin Cello Viola
For beginning students,on violin, viola and cello, I work with the Essential Elements and Suzuki books (depending on the student). They offer a lot of practical information, as well as beginning music theory for all string students. For my beginning violin and viola students, I only work with them through Essential Elements book 3. At that time, I would refer them to a teacher who's primary instrument is violin. With my cello students, all levels are welcome. Read More
Instruments: Piano
My teaching style depends very much on what your goal is in deciding to learn to play piano. I can teach you how to play classical piano, piano improvisation, piano accompaniment, or how to play in a certain style with a musical group. Your goal as a student determines the approach we take. That being said, typically, I take a three pronged approach toward teaching: 1. Theory; teach the fundamentals of sight reading and music theory in small increments and apply them by creating custom musical exercises. 2. Read More
Instruments: Piano Flute Piccolo
I began teaching flute lesson when I was a sophomore in high school in 2010 by helping middle school students, as well as other high school students, to prepare for band auditions. I taught throughout my time in college as well. I took a short break after graduating with my master's but have since returned to teaching in the Rockwall area. I have also taught in larger group settings, working with marching band flute sections and flute choir. Read More
