For piano, I typically use the entire Schaum series. I feel that it is the best, most affordable, systematic option out there. After that, I typically use the Thompson method or any selected material by the student that is appropriate to their level. Also in order to make the lessons more engaging and fun for the student, I allow some time for music making where the student gets a chance to play any notes with my accompaniment in the background.
