My methods vary with the age of the student. For beginners who are children, I usually start with Alfred's Basic Piano Library, which I try to go through most of that series. During that time, the children will occasionally play anything they wish to play that is interesting or fun to them. I also make it a point to observe how they learn and what is successful for them along with what doesn't work so well. I use educational tools such as videos and games to also teach, especially for the younger ones. This makes them enjoy the lesson more I've found. For students, if any caliber, I start by teaching fundamentals. Fundamentals make it possible to enjoy playing the instrument. This includes things like scales, breathing exercises, warmups. After that I then will begin teaching skills. Often times, when playing an instrument, one skill is made up of multiple skills. I like to focus on the smaller skills and fine tune them so students can grow on their instruments.
