I am warm and vulnerable, I find being open is the best way to develop my students' trust. Trust is key. It is important to me that students progress at their own pace however slow or fast that may be. I help set goals for development that are challenging but realistic. We will celebrate achieving those goals together. Nothing inspires me more than seeing the light go on inside a student as they grasp a challenging concept. Read More

I emphasize reading, because it gives each student the tools to learn independently and unlocks worlds of information. If a younger student aspires to play in school bands, this knowledge will equip him or her to this end and place the student ahead of his or her peers. I also emphasize feel, because this goes way beyond the mere reproducing of written notes into the very heart of music. I teach students how to analyze and map songs, so they may take those tools forward and utilize critical listening skills. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Euphonium
I have been teaching in the private setting since the mid-90s, which I began as an undergrad in Music Education. I taught for about a decade in public schools in Kansas, teaching both band and vocal music to students of all ages at various times. I chose to return to school in 2009 and completed two Masters degrees in performance in classical and jazz trumpet over the next four years. Read More

The biggest accomplishment to me is helping students of all ages fall in love with music just like I did as a child. Students do not need to perform infront of others if they truly wish not to, as long as they enjoy what they are doing. It is important that a student continues to progress during their time with me, however this will be at their own pace. Finding out what goals each student has and what inspires them in order to tailor my instruction to each student is critical to the students development in music. Read More

I love sharing my hard won skills with all ages from school age to retired seniors. I am constantly searching for the best way to convey musical ideas and translate them into making players with the skills to enjoy what they are playing. We will not only learn how to play but why a piece of music works. Always with the goal of growing a player who is self sufficient with the skills to read, write and arrange for their chosen instruments. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Music
My teaching experience began in high school, as I began teaching children in a group setting. I worked at a children's educational summer camp where I instructed choirs and chorus singers for Musical Theater. During my time at OCU, I taught private voice lessons to students with diverse vocal goals. I have found that the best way to teach singing is to let your students sing! While discussing technique and concepts is important, it can never replace the experience of practicing with your voice. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
I started teaching private clarinet lessons in high school and fell in love with it. After high school, I went to Northern Oklahoma College where I played saxophone and clarinet and was awarded the Outstanding Instrumentalist award two consecutive years. After graduating, I attended Oklahoma City University where I played as 1st chair clarinet in the Wind Philharmonic and Lead Tenor in the Jazz Ensemble. In 2012, I graduated with my bachelor's degree in Music Education. Read More
