I have been teaching professionally for 11 years. Before I began my professional teaching career I already had several years of experience instructing my two younger siblings in violin and cello, even serving as a primary instructor to one of the siblings at one point. I have mainly taught private lessons out of my home. I consider the greatest and most rewarding aspect of teaching to be seeing and hearing a student gain the ability to play an instrument and thereby to become a musician. And I believe the only way to really accomplish this is to meet a student where they're at, become aware of their musical interests and goals, and to be a guiding voice that can help them work towards those goals in a more efficient way than they could on there own. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students succeed and enjoy learning music. I encourage the students to progress at their own pace, while offering some challenge at each level. I use incentives to encourage the students to continue to progress, while getting a sense of accomplishment. I am encouraging, gentle, demonstrate techniques, and help where students struggle. I studied at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London before going to the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester at 18. I have a strong love of music. I received my Bachelor of Music from East Carolina University and my Master of Music from Anderson University. I have been playing the saxophone for twenty-four years. I have also been a public school general music/band director for five years. I have been teaching saxophone for about twelve years. I am a full-time school teacher and professional musician. I love teaching, and I do so with both encouragement and humor. I realize that not everyone can is able or willing to practice six hours a day, so I work with each student individually to find their pace. I am happy teaching both competitive students (I have had several students participate successfully in the ABRSM exams) and students who play purely for enjoyment. My favorite piano methods are Piano Adventures and Piano Pronto, and I like to combine both of them. Read More
