I have been teaching people music since I was in college. I have experience teaching little kids as well as older adults. I like to give my students a combination of music fundamentals that I think will help them, as well as putting some focus on music that interests them. The key is to make sure the student is enjoying themselves. For Voice I cater my teaching to the student's goals and aspirations. The first 10-15 minutes of a lessons are spent doing vocal warmups and sightsinging exercises. The remaining time is spent working on repertoire that the student and myself choose together. For Piano I work out of the Faber Piano Adventure Books. Very young children are shown how to play, so that once they learn, they feel good about themselves. As they become more experienced, I begin to let go of the reigns and encourage them to figure it out, with my help. I hold two degrees in music from Montclair State College, a BA and an MA in music. My primary instrument was piano and my secondary was violin. I studied piano with Murray Present, pupil of Josef and Rosinna Lhevinne at Julliard, working with him for both degrees and thereafter. I've been teaching private instrumental and general classroom music for over 30 years. As a child, I received many music lessons on piano and drums and percussion. I decided to focus more on drums and percussion because it offered more in terms of opportunities to perform in school bands and orchestras. In high school, my friends and I formed our own band.
