Instruments: Piano

For beginning students who are younger I typically start with Faber and Faber's Piano Adventures. If a student is older I will put them in the accelerated method or the adult method. I will sometimes supplement with Alfred's Premier series or Music Tree. Once a student has progressed to a certian level, I will introduce other piano literature to supplement the method book learning. Instruments: Piano Organ Keyboard

My preferred methodology uses the Alfred series books, as well as the Faber Piano Adventure series as supplemental material. I use a combination of note names and intervals to teach reading skills. I also like to incorporate theory into every lesson. Once we have the basics down, I like the student to tell me what he/she would enjoy playing, and I'll do my best to incorporate that, or something similar to that.  Also, I prefer that the student have access to a real piano rather than a keyboard. Every time I meet for lesson with student(s), I prepare handouts and copies of pieces. The handouts are usully about warm-up routines (excercises of tone, fingering techniques, tonging excercises, vibrato and so on). It depens on the level of the students.  I have been teaching in the Columbus area for 14 years.  I have studied piano and voice for 30 years performing and had experience auditioning for and performing in musical theater, opera, and contemporary settings. I graduated from Wesleyan College in 2014 with a Bachelors of Arts in Music focused in Vocal performance and a studio art minor with a painting focuse, and this fall I am going to start working towards a Masters of Fine Arts at Columbus College of Art and Design.
