I began teaching private lessons in 1989. My focus is to understand what learning style my students have and base my teaching methods on their individual needs. In college I studied pedagogies (teaching methods) for band, orchestra and majored in vocal and classroom education. Since achieving my degree in teaching kindergarten through 12th grade education, I have worked in Preschool, Elementary, Middle School, and High School settings as well with the elderly. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
My primary objective in my teaching is to use the multitude of different musical styles within my arsenal to help each of my students find what type of music they are most interested in learning, and to be the best resource I can to help them achieve his/her musical goals. My beginning students generally work out of the Standard of Excellence Book 1, and then graduate to a combination of the Rubank Intermediate/Advanced Methods combined with a mixture of various jazz methods (Jamey Aebersold, Jim Snidero, etc.) as well as a variety of pop/folk/movie theme collections depending on the interests of the individual student. My experiences teaching are fundamentally positive in nature. I know each student is different and unique in his or her way. I also teach lessons in German and/or English as needed. Setting a goal at the first lesson is important to me. I provide recitals twice a year for both strings and piano. For piano I offer a grand piano sent back from Vienna, refurbished and beautiful in tone. Read More

I firmly believe in the fact that each student possesses his/her optimal way of learning, and I strive to discover that method and tailor my approach as such. I also believe in tried and true method books and use just the right one for each student, based, on his/her age, ability level, etc. I also believe in helping each student get the most out of lessons, including pure enjoyment and fun. For beginning students, I typically start with the universal drum exercises every drummer should know, like the Ted Reed's book "syncopation" or the very classic "stick control". These exercises are mostly for warm ups, hand coordination, internalizing rhythm, and speed training. Depending on their musical background, I often like to introduce basic music theory concepts just so we are able to speak the same language. Once a foundation is set, I quickly move to what the student's interests are. Read More

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing your student, change before your eyes. To develop a passion to create music, and to help others. Short term and long term goals are essentials for progress, and creativity. To put together different people from all walks of life and have them create beautiful music, collaborating with one another in an orchestra, or a band. As a musician I can not just teach notes, but the language of emotion and communication through music. Read More
