I started teaching in 2008 while still studying at the University of North Florida. Most of my expierence is with children between the ages of 5-13, though I have taught much older as well. The real joy I get from teaching is when the student begins to love what they are doing. Any instrument can be difficult at first but once a love of music is combined with the student's instrument, the greatest strides will be made. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Keyboard
I began teaching voice as a school project when I was 14 years old and realized that I I loved it! From then on, I always kept my hand in teaching throughout my high school and college years. I started teaching full time, at which point I added piano and speaking to my repertoire. I have experience as a performing singer, session musician and actor and I I love helping my students get the most out their lessons, whether they simply want to learn their instrument to the best of their ability, or learn more about writing music and the industry. Instruments: Violin Viola Electric Violin Fiddle
I collaborate with my students to determine their needs and goals. When starting out with beginners, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for Strings. I then transition to Suzuki repertoire. I also include music individual to each student based on their interests. My methods are flexible and designed to draw out the strengths of each student. I like to have open communication with my students, and I like to get feedback from my students about where they are at so I can meet them there. Read More
Instruments: Piano Organ
Since teaching my first piano lessons 10 years ago I realize that, as a teacher, you never stop learning. There can always be better ways to do things. I believe that a holistic view of teaching provides a full spectrum of knowledge to my students; this includes theory, improvisation, and popular tunes (in addition to sight reading and technique). I try to increase motivation to play the piano by asking them what their favorite songs are and then finding a way to arrange them to their level. Read More

This knowledge will teach you to be able to look at a song's chord chart and learn the song in a style that's uniquely yours. This type of study will also teach you how to write your own music. Reading Music (Piano Only): We take a look at how to read the musical staff, symbology, fingerings and timing included. You will be able to learn key signatures and how each note translates to the piano. Read More
Instruments: Cello
I began learning cello with the Suzuki method at age five. I believe Suzuki is a great place to start, as it gives learners a chance to practice specific technical and musical skills before moving on to more challenging material. Suzuki also emphasizes listening to professionals perform pieces you're working on, which I believe is important as it allows you to "absorb" good habits. I believe in breaking down complex musical concepts into bite-sized lessons that include repetition and practice to achieve mastery. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
I make sure to first introduce my students musical fundamentals, then progress to repertoire that is appropriate for the students' age and skill level. I scaffold learning concepts and sequence them so that students can confidently progress from one level to another. Music theory is woven into my teaching methods, strengthening students' understanding of their instrument. For piano, I like to teach from the Faber Piano Adventures books. For voice, I implement vocal exercises that can be easily replicated and practiced. Read More
