Instruments: Piano Trumpet
Music is my passion. I believe that music is able to connect us in ways that words and actions simply cannot. I have been playing music in some form for over 20 years. I play trumpet and piano. In college, I was a lead trumpet player for the UNL Cornhusker Marching Band. My experience in music has taught me that there is more to playing an instrument than simply following a sheet of music and playing notes. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
My teaching dates back to my high school years in which I instructed younger students in middle school band as an assistant to the director. I have performed in all kinds of groups including jazz bands, wind ensembles, latin groups, and even choirs. I grew up in Cozad, Nebraska which is a small town, but I was influenced by so many kinds of music given this age of technology. With my versatile background I think I can really guide a student in their growth and development as a musician. Read More
Instruments: Voice Saxophone Flute Recorder Tuba
I grew up with a Pianist and Music Theory Professor as a mother; I learned to read music at the same time as I learned to read English. Music has never lost that early childhood sense of wonder for me, and so it's my primary goal to share that with others. More importantly, I want to help people of all ages develop their own musical voice and directive. So my teaching style is a combination of 2 things: Teaching a student how to practice (that is, improve their fundamental skill set towards mastery of an instrument) their instrument, and helping the student develop their musical identity and interests. I always set clear goals and assign homework to students to ensure quality learning in the most effective way. I will grade and provide learning strategies to students. I promote the spirit of self-studying at home before going to a lesson, so students will learn more new knowledge than just passively listening to what is learned in class. I always create games or interesting things in class so that students have a positive view of learning music. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I truly enjoy seeing my students learn to appreciate music and its many styles and uses. My teaching style, while keeping a focus on the fundamentals of piano, also encourages creativity and exploration of their own. All students have different learning styles and speeds, and some students may take longer to understand certain concepts. I take this into account before each lesson, and tailor the lesson to be both productive and enjoyable. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I am excited to be a full-time drum instructor. I teach snare drum and/or whole drum kit. I began playing drums in high school and have continued playing music for over 25 years. I have live performance and studio recording experience. I was taught by 2 private teachers as well as a high school band instructor and university jazz professor. My home studio is equipped with 2 drum sets (one for rock and one for jazz). Read More
Instruments: Piano Trumpet Trombone Euphonium French Horn Tuba Music
I have performed with a wide variety of ensembles, including concert bands, wind ensembles, orchestras, brass quintets, and woodwind quintets. Notable examples include the Quincy Symphony Orchestra, Celestial Winds, and the Chicagoland Educator's Orchestra, Lincoln Municipal Band, and Hastings Symphony Orchestra. In addition to my performance and teaching experience, I am currently engaged in research about the construction of instruments that are the precursors to modern brass instruments. I have received funding from two separate grants provided by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and have already presented my research at the UNL Husker Horn Day, and at the Western Illinois University Horn Festival.
