Instruments: Piano Voice Music
I have worked with special needs kids and adults since I graduated, then after a brief period of break due to having my own children, I am back to teaching piano lessons. I have worked in schools and hospitals since my internship before graduating and now teaching in my home studio. I love to work with kids and I believe the younger they are, the better they should experience music early and more formal lessons can be provided as long as they are able to sit, understand how to read and keep rhythm. Instruments: Piano Saxophone
For all of my students of any age, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and learning a recognizable song hand picked by the student and approved by me. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce jazz repertoire, sight reading and things like, technical exercises, jazz improvisation, theory, ear training and classical music etudes. I also introduce my students to composition and different musical creation techniques. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet Piccolo
For students who are learning an instrument for band or marching band, I like to integrate their sheet music or method books into the lesson. I use method books with students who are new to their instrument. These materials are then supplemented with scales, solo repertoire, exercises, and technique work as appropriate for each student's interest and skill level. Lessons also consist of listening to previous assignments/repertoire from prior weeks and then offering feedback, answering any questions a student may have, and giving new assignments for the next lesson. I started out as a percussionist, studying throughout high school and in to college at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. During my time in Boston, I discovered a bustling bluegrass music scene and my focus switched to stringed instruments, namely the mandolin and the violin. Since College, I have been using all veins of traditional music to join in and build communities of artists. I'm very well connected in the New York City Bluegrass, Irish, and Jazz scenes. Read More
Instruments: Flute
As explained in my teaching style, every student is different and thus I adapt my approach depending on that. This being said, some of the books I use depending on level for flute students; for the beginning students "Trevor Wye - Beginner's Book for the Flute" for advanced to very advanced students the "Etudes Et Exercices Techniques pour la flute" By Marcel Moyse. All while going through a variety of flute repertoire that keeps the student inpired. Read More
