My philosophy is creating a solid musical foundation for students to deepen their understanding of singing and playing the piano. I always try my best to convey the basic musical knowledge to students, helping students develop their ability to recognize, read, listen, response, notate, understand rhythmic patterns and experiences in different musical cultures. Some of the main areas which students would have an opportunity to learn in general music class are Rhythm, Pitch, Texture/Harmony, and Form. Read More

I am excited to be a full-time drum instructor. I teach snare drum and/or whole drum kit. I began playing drums in high school and have continued playing music for over 25 years. I have live performance and studio recording experience. I was taught by 2 private teachers as well as a high school band instructor and university jazz professor. My home studio is equipped with 2 drum sets (one for rock and one for jazz). Read More

I have been lucky enough to have been studying music since I was very little, and so it's now my drive and motivation to share all the lessons, insights, and wonders I've learned from studying a wide variety of instruments and types of music. I've been trained as a singer (both as an adult Baritone as well as a soloist Boy Soprano) and as a Saxophonist (all varieties) formally, and a Drum Corps International educated brass player. For beginning students in piano, we will work from the Faber Series of books, working on getting comfortable with finding notes, and playing in proper rhythm against a steady beat. For more advanced piano students, we will work from whatever materials the student already has, and work to build their skills in a manner tailored to their individual needs. For beginning violin lessons, we will focus on understanding the fundamentals of controlling the violin and producing the best possible tone on the instrument while teaching students the fundamentals of rhythm and music reading. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Essentials Element Piano Theory. I like to separate practical and theory in different sessions so that they are familiar and comfortable with reading the notes while playing. I would also start with some fun and interesting melodies to get the kids engaged. When it comes to learning theories, I would use fun and creative symbols that associates symbols in music to get the student to remember them better. Read More
