If not coming for theory tutoring then I begin with Vidal keyboard harmony practice and then progress with 16th and 18th century counterpoint Composition lessons are based on scores or recordings the composition student brings in that they have written or are interested in. We discuss the composition and the students goals in writing the music and I recommend scores to look at as well as articles, book, and journals that are relevant to the students particular interests. Hello, and welcome to my studio! I love to make music with my students! I teach technique, theory and performance by using music that appeals to them. I always look for new ways to teach. My goal is to create a comfortable yet challenging learning environment in which every student is successful. My teaching style is enthusiastic and caring. I believe that the best way to encourage students to practice is to teach music that they want to play, to have them perform, to challenge them with beautiful music and to use technology to support practicing. While achievement is important to me, I believe that developing long-term skills is a far more significant. I prefer to emphasize skill-building and retention, and always want to make sure the student is enjoying the process. I prefer to set realistic short- and long-term goals for students at each lesson, and acknowledge their accomplishments with a system of rewards. Additionally, at the end of each year, I encourage my students' participation in a studio-wide voluntary recital, which is intended to showcase their growth and development over the course of the year as well as afford them an opportunity to perform in public. My methods are different for every student, but I always start with fundamentals. This includes scales, exercises to improve sound and intonation, reading, writing, improvisation, and most importantly listening. Depending on the path the student choses, some areas will be focused on more than others. I will often introduce more advanced concepts early if the student displays interest in them. I am not the kind of instructor who will say "play your etudes first and then we can talk about improvisation." I almost quit shortly after I started music because I had an instructor with that outlook. Read More

The most important thing for me is that the student is playing in every lesson. I like to know what the student enjoys listening to, and go from there. It is my belief that there is nothing too hard to learn. Whatever the student is interested in, I promise we can get there. Learning songs not only helps build interests, but is one of the best ways to learn. I strongly believe in the importance of improvisation because I believe it helps develop many skills, and I love jamming with students in lessons. Read More

Each student is VERY different. Their pacing will be different, their level of experience will be different, the genres that they want to learn will be different, etc. Because of this, my teaching style will vary for each specific student. For my students first lesson, I will get to know them as a person and understand how they learn. I will also ask them to prepare a song of their choice for me to listen to. Read More

Structured lessons are designed to develop technical skills as well as musicality in young musicians. This is achieved through practicing exercises, scales, and etudes in addition to solo repertoire and jazz standards. Ibelieve that every person has a deep understanding of music even though many have different ways of interpreting it. It is my mission to find the method of instruction that is tailored to his students learning style and understanding of music to enable proficient communication. Read More
