My teaching style can best be described as flexible. I like to tailor every lesson to each individual student based on their needs and interests. For younger and newer students regardless of age, I like to focus primarily on fundamentals such as developing proper posture, becoming comfortable with the instrument, tuning and producing sound. Now, at twenty-five, I have had the opportunity to teach people from all walks of life, with ages ranging from 6 to 60!  I encourage students to practice "perfect practice", which means they are as relaxed as possible when practicing (mentally and physically). I teach half hour lessons and instruct the student on good reading habits, how to practice and perform, encouraging them to bring in any supplemental music they are working on at school or on the internet. The importance of practice cannot be over emphasized, nor can the encouragement (nagging!!) Of an interested parent. A student cannot learn an instrument just by coming to lessons. When recording our demo (for a fellow students studio project), I took additional responsibility in our studio production. Before leaving college, I formed noise-rock outfit Robot Versus Dinosaur to explore performing purely-improvised music based on things Id learned from dance classes and live jamming. Graduation led to Philadelphia, where I interpreted pre-written drum-loops live for female-fronted pop band SubStatic. I then reconnected w/ step-brother to serve his MusicForHeadphones project for some 5 years, touring interstate and recording 3 albums, serving the project to focus on getting a Masters in Electrical Engineering at Drexel University, to research signal projecting, new forms of musical interfacing, and the educational potential of music video games. Mary has primarily studied classical trumpet, but also has training in jazz and world music. She currently plays principal trumpet in the Bravura Philharmonic and occasionally performs with the Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey, Orchestra Society of Philadelphia, and the Garden State Philharmonic. Shes also a member of the Philly Bloco and the Bella Vista Brass Quintet. Shes been involved in many performance groups including but not limited to the Vassar Wind Ensemble, Penn Orchestra, Marsyas Ensemble and numerous Purchase Conservatory ensembles including the symphony orchestra, graduate brass quintet, Latin jazz orchestra, klezmer ensemble, and the new music ensemble.
