I started taking piano lessons at the age of 5. As a I continued to take piano lessons, I eventually in middle school began to study with a professor from Julliard until entering the university. I graduated from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University with a Bachelors of Music degree in piano performance. However, I started teaching right away and have enjoyed teaching for over 40 years. Simply put, I love music. I listen to music and make music and teach music in different styles, on different instruments, in different ways. I've recorded and performed on trombone, trumpet, bass, guitar, ukulele, tuba, and more. I've played with symphony orchestras in Carnegie Hall and with rock bands in Brooklyn basements. My teaching experience has been quite varied, with ample experience teaching private students and group classes of all ages and ability levels. I have taught privately for more than 10 years, and have always encouraged a supportive, compassionate, and engaging learning environment. Most recently, I was awarded a Teaching Fellowship at the Mannes School of Music, where I was fortunate to be a professor of piano for undergraduate music majors. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Bastien. If the student is older, we should progress relatively quickly and move onto more advanced books such as Piano Adventures. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
