Otherwise, what’s the point! In 2016, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree in Guitar with an emphasis in music composition. In addition to performing guitar, I am a singer-songwriter, and composer. These skills offer a unique ability to cross-connect with multiple genres ranging from Modern Pop-Rock to Contemporary Christian Music, and from Classical to Flamenco, performing either on classical, flamenco, acoustic, or electric guitar. This added versatility to my performing experience has opened many opportunities to perform in various venues and groups throughout the Twin Cities area, neighboring states, and abroad in South America and Mexico. When taking on beginner students, I typically use a blend of method books and novice musical pieces to begin to build musicianship. With intermediate musicians, I tend to seek out anything of interet to the student while incorporating harder repertoire to strengthen musicianship and to continue to peek interest in music. With adult musicians, I let them guide me to their area of interest, and I capitalize on that to guide them to better musicianship, no matter what their skill level may be. Read More

I collaborate with my students to determine their needs and goals. When starting out with beginners, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for Strings. I then transition to Suzuki repertoire. I also include music individual to each student based on their interests. My methods are flexible and designed to draw out the strengths of each student. I like to have open communication with my students, and I like to get feedback from my students about where they are at so I can meet them there. Read More

My method is altered depending on the student's age, skill level, and ultimate goals. For beginners, we start with the fundamentals of playing and caring for the instrument as well as the basic of reading music. As the student starts to get a firm grasp on the fundaments, we will begin moving towards the goals of the student. Those goals differ from student to student. It may be to be able to play in a community band, earn a first chair seat in your schools band, build a strong audition portfolio, or even just to be able to perfect a favorite song. Read More

I am always open to new ways of teaching and I belive the teacher can also learn from the student and improve his teaching skills. I always keep in mind that every student is different and the teacher has to work with their level of speed and progress. Read More

Music is one of the highest arts we have, often described as a universal language. I hope my teaching encourages students towards forming their own answers for "why?" and helping them to discover the "how" with every piece of music they work with. Together with my students, I want to help them find a higher purpose for the act of preparation, practice, study, and performance, so that these come from a genuine place. Read More

The student is not responsible for purchasing any books or material, as I provide everything to them. For children I love teaching simple 1 finger versions of two chords, to give them an instant gratification and the knowledge that they really can play guitar. For older students, I am able to completely design a lesson plan around their interests and favorite styles of music. I like to ask the students during the first lesson to name a few songs of any difficulty that they would eventually like to be able to play, and the lesson plan we follow will inevitably reach one of those songs, providing the student with a great benchmark for their success and inspiring them even more.I also incorporate light ear training into my lessons, as your ear is your strongest asset as a musician, and I am able to break down the musical genre barriers to show students that all music truly is the same, and it is all attainable.
