One thing I really enjoy about teaching is seeing my students find their love for music. This is why it is important for each student to feel accomplished at each lesson. This can be done by helping the student make and meet realistic goals that helps them see their progress and feel like they are continually moving forward. I always make a point to acknowledge and explain what specific things the students do right. Read More

I employ methods from the Peery Piano Academy by Christie Skousen, as well as added techniques I have found to be most helpful. I utilize fun games, flashcards, and a rewards system that encourages my students to stay focused on the task at hand while learning and retaining new information. I keep an organized studio and adjust my teaching to each student according to age, goals, and skill level. I tend to bounce between different materials depending on the need of the student and have used Faber Faber, Alfred, and Keith Snell. Read More

I believe I have the ideal combination of knowledge, training, and experience to make an invaluable contribution to Musica Lessons. Since graduating with my Master’s degree in Clarinet Music Performance in 2002, I have performed with numerous musical groups, including bands, orchestras, and ensembles, all over the world. For 12 years I performed with the Sudecka Philharmonic Orchestra in Poland as a clarinetist and pianist. I worked aboard a Japanese cruise ship and played clarinet and saxophone as part of the ship’s band. Read More

I love seeing my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it is important that each student is allowed space to be curious and creative as well as have enough structure to know how to continue forward. Together, we will make realistic goals for the week at the end of each lesson according to the needs, interests, and availability of each student. I will make a concerted effort to acknowledge accomplishment and create motivating meaningful performance opportunities. Read More

I have been teaching music since 1998. My mother, aunts and grandmother taught piano. It has been a wonderful thing to have a recital and the parents see the results of all the fun the students have had. I think the students will enjoy piano music so much that they will create lifelong habits. I encourage them to enjoy other instruments and genres. Then I encourage them to start creating and composing on their own. Read More

I approach teaching like nursing a baby ,u care for the baby,u feed the baby when hungry,u cover the babies body from catching cold , you teach the baby how to eat ,u hug the baby when he or she start crying, when she wants to go put her hand in the fire u stop her and tell her in advance what she’s going to experience.when she’s 18 you start to tell her to set goals and always drive hard to achieve them ,you tell her to never give up and be distracted by boys, you’d tell to always keep learning in life because the day you stop learning you start dying. What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
I think that it is important to figure out your trouble spots immediately. If there is a section that is difficult to play in your music, stop and take a moment to figure out why it is difficult. Once the problem has been identified, work to find ways to stop the problem. Many of these problems can be resolved by relaxing the body and more importantly the wrist, taking the passage slower, and playing it multiple times - both hands alone then together. Play the passage in different rhythms, fast and slow, and with different wrist techniques. This will increase your ability to play it up to tempo, currently.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I started playing the piano when I was three. My mom started teaching me at such a young age. I honestly don't even remember my life without the piano in it. Because of this, I have always played the piano and I will never stop. It brings me such joy to find a piece of music that I love and working on it until it is perfect! I chose to continue with piano because it relaxes me. It is my hobby. It is the thing that I do when I am having a bad day. I love sitting down at a piano and sight reading a new book of music. Playing the piano is what brings me joy.
What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I love playing music from the Romantic Period. I think that the composers during this period wrote incredibly beautiful music. I love the flowing style of pieces from this era. I also love to play more contemporary music. I think that the chords and styles used in this music is very exciting. There are so many different ways that a piece from this style can be played. I believe that it is important to have fun playing your music. I love to listen to different recordings and see how the performer played that piece and then put my own personal touch on the piece as well.
Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
I grew up in an extremely musical family. My mom teaches piano and has a piano studio of over 65 piano students. I can't remember a time where my mom wasn't teaching piano. I have three siblings. When each of us turned eight we got to choose a second instrument that we wanted to play. I chose to play the cello. Two of my siblings play the violin while the other plays the viola. We had a string quartet growing up. We have performed at several different events, with my mom accompanying us on the piano. We each play the piano and have loved getting to play together. We especially love the holidays when we get to play music together.
