I have had a strong passion for music for as long as I can remember. It brings me great joy to share and teach my passion with other aspiring musicians. I recently graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a Master of Music in Jazz Studies degree. I have been very fortunate to tour with the band, ILL Doots, multiple times in addition to performing in various settings that constantly push my musical boundaries whether I'm playing drums, vibes, piano, or auxilliary percussion. For beginning children, I typically like to use the Alfred series of beginner books depending on the instrument. I also like the students to rely on their ears just as equally, so the other half of the lesson is usually dedicated to learning music without relying on reading music. Of course, this is all dependent on the student's needs or prior experience. More importantly, I want to teach the student what they are truly interested in with music, and I have plenty of material to discuss if they are unsure of this interest. Read More

When you were growing up and were learning to speak, no one told you to go practice speaking alone in your room until you were good enough to talk (or jam) with the masters. As a child you were already "jamming" with the masters, no adult decided not to speak with you because you weren't at their speaking level. I will do my best to make learning music as natural a process as possible. Read More

The first thing a teacher must do is figure out how to motivate a student to practice. This can be done differently for different students. I will list some things that I have found that work. 1) Set a practice schedule/timer/alarm 2) I work on mindset and practice techniques to reduce practice session frustration/anxiety and increase positivity and feel good emotions 3) The student selects songs to practice in addition to scales, lesson book or repertoire 4) Parental support and priority 5) Listening to music outside of lesson 6) Practice one concept at a time 7) Limit faster passages to smaller groups of notes, practice slow with different patterns. 8) more in lesson!....... I have gained a passion for teaching from the people that taught and inspired me. I have worked with high school students and middle school students and find it rewarding to see them grow and progress into better musicians. I have enjoyed finding ways to keep my students motivated and wanting to come back and pursue their talent that they can spread with the world. I want each student to be able to study what it is that they find interesting and fun, so I will try to include music from musicians that my students take interest in. Read More

For beginner students I really like to work on the basics, i.e. mouth, air, and vibration of the lips and then start blowing on the instruments ,The importance of having these basic principles well resolved and important to be able to advance to the next level For intermediate students to make many scales, long grades and as the evolution add other exercises such as flexibility, arpeggios, simple staccato, double and triple etc... As I said, I do love to teach the individual, and after discovering their goals, use the approach that I believe will work best for them. I have many books that I use, and have worked in the past with Bunny Brunel and Mel Bay. With the instruments I teach, there are many different avenues that one could be wanting to take, from learning more theory, getting into Jazz Band at school, performing popular music live, or auditioning for college. This is why I take a versatile approach in my teaching, and in describing my instruction methods. Read More
