My teaching experience dated back to my college days, as I began teaching wind ensembles. I have been invited to help coach over 20 bands in the Osaka area, many times helping them reach gold medals at competitions such as the All-Japan Band Competition. I have of course also participated as a band and wind ensemble member many times, including the Osaka Shion Wind Ensemble and the Japan Wind Ensemble. In addition to band coaching, I have been teaching students in my private studio. Read More

I would teach my students the basic notes of guitar reading. Once I have fully got my students into guitar reading notes I would then teach them the principals of chord structure and reading chord structure. I would also have them make a plan of what type of song each student would be into and how each and every one of them are going to apply it when playing it. Read More

A native of Seattle, Christine began her musical studies as a classically-trained trumpet player. Moving to Chicago and collaborating with jazz colleagues led her to pursuing a master’s degree in vocal jazz. She was accepted into one of the nation’s leading jazz institutions, the University of North Texas. There she focused on her new passion for singing, honing her skills in piano, songwriting, arranging, and improvisation. Since completing her master’s, Christine has enjoyed teaching piano, voice, trumpet, and theory to students of all ages. Read More

I like to set realistic goals for students so that they can feel accomplished. I also find it's great to get an idea of exactly what they would like to play. For instance, if they love ACDC, picking a simple song like Back in Black to play and work up to something like Thunderstruck. It is important not to push them too hard. Nothing more gratifying than achieving a goal and receiving praise for it. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my Sophomore year of college when I was asked to come back to my local high school (of which I only attended two years before transferring to study music exclusively at the Chicago Academy for the Arts) to help instruct the indoor winter percussion ensemble and outdoor marching band ensemble (drum line and front percussion ensemble). There I gained a great amount of experience working with passionate students and was able to help them achieve their individual goals, as well as overall ensemble goals (ex. playing as a unit). I started teaching in the South Suburbs of Chicago in 2003, at a store called Ancient Music. Shortly after that, I started teaching at a store called Melody, before I took on students on my own. I took a hiatus from teaching because of some physical problems until 2012, when I started teaching at a place called Down Home Guitars in Frankfort Il. In 2015 I started teaching at the Beverly Arts Center. Read More

The most important part of playing music is having fun! Music is about expressing yourself and you shouldn't be stressed out about learning how to do that. Each student has unique strengths and weaknesses and it's very important to learn each student's routines and habits. With this in mind, I will create an environment that facilitates encouragement and constructive criticism. As a teacher, I will always encourage my students, but they will get out what they put into it. Read More
