I collaborate with my students to assess their current musical abilities and set reasonable goals to ensure they achieve the very best of their musical experience, leading to higher levels of musical creativity, expression, and performance. Lessons are catered to reinforce proper foundations and techniques, while offering progressive challenges. I utilize a variety of schools of instruction, methods, and techniques to offer students multiple options which will best nurture their musical growth. Read More

I combine basic method books with added improv, pop tunes etc. that grabs the students interest and expands their musical world-view. I make it fun and get them out of the comfort zone of the book, by letting go and trying new things. I may have flute students improvise on the blues, and in the process teach them about the basic 12 bar blues structure, which is the foundation for all of pop music. Read More

I have played the violin for eleven years, and have a Bachelor's degree in philosophy. I studied biochemistry until taking a semester to study violin with Barbara Gorzynska in Vienna, after which I found an interest in the processes of learning and authentic relationships to one's activity. This time abroad was certainly a large influence on my teaching style, as I learned a great deal about the violin for one, but moreso was my education in philosophy. Read More

Music lessons were one of my favorite activities growing up and continue to be for me as an adult. I want to give my students the same joy that I have for music, regardless of what their goals are. In the first lesson, I ask every new student what their goals area. That is how we start working together. For instance, if I know that a student is hoping to audition for a school production in a few months, I want to make sure that I include performance preparation in our lesson. Read More

My teach experience began in my freshman year of college when I worked as a string/theory instructor at the Lake Country Conservatory of Music in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin where I worked with students of all ages and skill levels. I have worked as a private instructor for almost eight years now and have only grown to love it more with every lesson that I conduct. Nothing fulfills me more than seeing a student perform, whether it is at a concert or competition, because seeing the musical and expressive growth that has been cultivated come out through the student is an absolutely beautiful experience. My goal is teach you to be able communicate (improvise, listen and respond) through a 3-step process, which includes; 1. Imitation: Listening and Learning lines by ear, Transcribing solos. Absorbing a player’s feel, articulation, and time. 2. Assimilation, which means ingraining these stylistic nuances, harmonic devices, and lines that you’ve transcribed into your musical conception. Not just mentally understanding them on the surface level, but truly connecting them to your ear and body. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
I have different methods for piano and voice: depending on the level of the piano student, I will use Faber method books and supplement performance pieces, technique lessons, games, theory discussions, etc. I do not use method books with voice students, although I do have a curriculum that I follow and adjust depending on the level and age of the voice student. I believe that while beginning and intermediate students continue to learn, it is important for them to practice different genres on their instrument -- this allows them to speak different musical languages, improves their understanding of style, and gives them a better context for their own gifts and interests.
