I have a tried and true set of vocal building exercises (also known as "warmups") that I use with all of my students. These exercises help to strengthen students middle voices, extend their ranges, increase their agility, and increase their stamina. I combine these exercises with carefully assigned repertoire to promote growth and functional freedom. Since 2012 I worked as an ear-training tutor and private piano instructor during my undergraduate years. I used Kodaly method for ear-training tutoring and helped many college students improve and achieve their goal in their classes. I taught age 4 - 12 children piano until 2014. After I moved to the city, I started teaching music theory and piano privately since last summer. I began teaching private lessons while I was in graduate school, starting in 2016. I have taught at the Peabody Conservatory Prep Division, Yale College lessons program, Music in the Schools Initiative, privately contracted lessons, Notre Dame High School in West Haven, CT, and finally and currently, I teach full time as Associate Chair of Music and Assistant Professor at the University of Bridgeport since 2022. I'm hands-on, affirming, and challenging at the same time: I believe in gently recognizing areas of improvement, which we work on through fostering a positive, "no-wrong-answers" approach. I create a safe space for my students and encourage them to explore all areas and facets of the instrument; in doing so, students are then able to express themselves more dynamically in classical music, and to improvise more creatively in jazz. As an instructor, its important to me that my students are developing both their skills and their love for music at an equal rate. I do this by assigning exercises and material that will be both rewarding and fun for the student. I also set timely goals so that they have something to look forward to in their next lesson.
