Although I have my own methods and "prescribed" teaching materials, I love to keep a dialogue with the student. I always ask what their goals with music are, as I will then tailor the lessons accordingly. If a student says to me that they want to work towards an audition, I know that I can push them harder in terms of expectation and material. For my piano students, I use different method and technique books in order to help my students learn the basics.  This includes how to properly read their sheet music so that they can pratice their skills by themselves.  I also use repetition and demonstrate different pratice skills so that my students can further advance their piano skills. For both vocal and piano lessons I do demonstrate difficult parts of the music in order to help my students understand the music selection that they are working on. Read More

I began teaching when I was in high school, working with an organization in my local community that provided affordable lessons to those who can not afford the high prices of private music instruction. I continued teaching privately during college, and began working in classroom settings the past three years. My experience with directing ensembles, as well as teaching private lessons, has led me to develop a strong curriculum that provides students with meaningful and relevant experiences. Read More

I began teaching clarinet to beginners in high school, and 9 years later I maintain a small studio ranging from beginners learning fundamentals, to advanced high-schoolers preparing for college auditions, to masters students seeking supplementary lessons. My students have come from North America, Asia, and Australia. As a professional musician, I have performed in the United States, Germany, and Austria, and I have played with orchestras such as the Eugene Symphony Orchestra, Newport Symphony Orchestra, training ballet orchestra OrchestraNEXT, Clackamas Repertory Orchestra, and with school groups including HfM Trossingen Hochschuleorchester and University of Oregon Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. I try to relax the student first with body relaxation and breathing methods. We then do warm up vocal exercises to build the voice and then work on songs. I play the accompaniments on piano for them and they can record all of the lesson. I also do vocal coaching and incorporate acting methods. Piano students need to learn how to play basic songs first but then we can start to incorporate songs or other music they like into their lessons. Read More
