I like to work with students individually for their own goals and skill level. For younger students, we work on msuciality and basics of singing through devleopmentally appropriate (and fun!) songs. Regardless of the student's level, each lesson contains singing repertoire, vocal exercises to work on technique, and musicianship skills. The combination of these elements will depend entirely on the student's needs and desires! At the consultation lesson, I will provide a written assessment of where I see the student progressing and propose a plan to reach the students stated goals, focusing always on the process of individual development. I directly relate my teaching methods to Dr. Jan Kagrice, the founder of Musician's Wellness of North America; an organization that rehabilitates musicians with conditions that affect their ability to play their instruments. I've continued her teachings of a relaxed, observational form of playing, which basically means that my students learn how to play a brass instrument with the least amount of effort possible with the best sound possible. Sometimes students would feel agitated about practice. I would try to instill the desire and patience into the student to make them realize the rewards of hard work and practice. I've been teaching private lessons consistently for 8 years. I first started teaching when I was in high school, helping other students understand points about theory and improvisation. Music lessons have so many different things to offer to people, so I believe in letting people take from lessons what will best serve them.
