My teaching experience dates back to 2008, teaching middle school private lessons as well as high school group lessons. I really enjoy teaching because of the experiences I had with my teachers in my early years of learning the drums and I've always wanted to give that information to others. I have been teaching for five years, beginning in Denver, Colorado. I began teaching Glee themed camps and dance classes through an organization in Denver, and then moved on to choreograph children's musicals (the largest of these had 80 children ages six to eighteen!). At my next studio I choreographed and music directed shows (Cinderella Junior and Aladdin Junior). At my busiest in Denver I had thirty-four private students. I am happiest when I see my students learn to love their lessons and to enjoy practicing. I make sure that they have numerous opportunities to perform for others. Even with very young children, we begin to write notes, and learn time signatures and key signatures. In one lesson, my young students are able to "read" notes and to play pieces. My teaching style is a something I consider to be a hybrid: I combine the academic knowledge I have gained since I started my first piano lesson at four years old, along with the real life experience I obtained as a full-time traveling musician. I take this unique style of teaching and apply it in a very engaging and stimulating learning environment. Working with novice piano students, I usually employ traditional method materials like Bastien or Thompson if the student is a child, and Alfred for adults. Though it is rare, and usually at the insistence of a parent, I can also use these methods with beginning guitar students. In the summer of 2009, after my freshman year of college, started what would become an annual "pop-up" voice studio of 20-30 local students in my hometown who would take weekly lessons for the duration of the summer. Long before graduation, I saw this opportunity as a one to build teaching skills, test my own knowledge, and further instill a love for music and the voice into kids from my home community. Through these outlets I was afforded the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space among many other great venues. In those years I had traveled throughout the country as well as overseas performing and studying music.
