For children I tend to start with posture, positioning of the hands, rounded fingers and finger notation. I understand that Molineux's teaching methods are of the 19th centurybut they are still relevant today in how we perceive music. I began teaching in college 6 years ago and have helped students successfully prepare for and win ensemble auditions at the college level. For the double bass, perhaps the most athletic instrument, I know it is imperative to focus on proper posture and technique to avoid injury. This bodily awareness (rooted in years of yoga practice) is a central part of my teaching philosophy. I am very musically and artistically motivated in most aspects of my life. I also work in film and theatre. I graduated from high school in Texas in 2011 where I maintained a status of one of the best high school clarinet players in the state. I went to college for undergraduate and graduate degrees in theatre, but I continued to take music lessons and play in various groups.
