I have performed throughtout NY, Boston, Montreal, Quebec, Ontario, and New Brunswick. There are many methods in voice, but my favorite teaching method is Vaccai. Its a simple and thorough method that explores intervalic reading and understanding theory, as well as classical breath training. I also teach vocal improvisation with jazz standards and allow my students to research about other styles and genres that they are curious about. The most important thing is they keep a good vocal health practice that allows them to be versatile and creative. Singing is such a personal and meditative instrument that the more time you spend understanding your voice the more you will be able to achieve. With Violin Students, I like to start with the Suzuki method, Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, as well as some basic 1 octave scales. The first book of Suzuki is taught mainly by ear, while in the background I am also teaching rhythm with the Essential Elements material. I began teaching private piano and voice lessons in the Boston area after college, and taught for eight years at after-school programs. I learned my style from my mother, who taught piano out of our home when I was growing up. She would try to make learning the basics fun and would choose pieces to work on that were musically interesting for kids, so that once they mastered the notes, they would enjoy playing it for themselves and for friends.
