The best thing as a music teacher personally is to see of my students develop a love for music. It is also important that each individual student will improve at his or her own pace and his or her own level. I will encourage this by making realistic goals for all my students at each individual lesson. I teach out of instructional books, notably books by Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, and Alfred. Sometimes, I use sheet music print outs, or draft up my own exercises.  I go back in forth in a non-conventional manner, adapting accordingly to the student's needs.  I like to incorporate exercises and warm ups to improve and enchance technique.  I also teach songs that the student would like to learn.  I'm very patient and rarely rigid in my approach, although I do stick to a general routine that allows a focused approach to learning. For beginners who are children, I start with the essential Suzuki method which includes a focus on musical listening imitation, parental involvement (at very young ages) and creating an effortless technique. The Suzuki books are great in that they provide a great foundation and an extremely logical progression for taking students from complete beginners to an advanced level. For advanced students, we can branch out into a wide variety of classical concertos or other repertoire (this happens around Suzuki book 6) I love to teach adults, and I try to structure my teaching in accordance with adult students' goals and interests.
