At all levels (beginner-advanced), I teach piano performance, technique, music theory, ear training, and sight reading. My curriculum follows the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) standards, and students are strongly encouraged to take RCM examinations as they progress through each level. Although every student's piano journey will look different based on their musical goals, preferences, etc., the RCM standards provide guidelines upon which I design a personal curriculum for each student. I'm a 24 year old composer, pianist, researcher, programmer and teacher from Los Angeles. I recently completed my bachelor's at New England Conservatory, where I studied piano with Bruce Brubaker and Ethan Iverson, and composition with John Mallia and Efstratios Minakakis. As a composer, my work engages acoustic and electronic sound, composition, software and electrical engineering to explore new modes of human and other-than-human interaction. My recent compositions include "Bona Dea", a vocal cyborg comprising 12 singers networked by live pulse data and haptic feedback; and "Works for Strings and Datura Innoxia in Lunar Regolith Simulant", a set of string pieces I wrote to catalyze the germination of California-native flowers growing in synthetic lunar rocks. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Each student is provided a weekly practice journal. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Encouragement is key to my teaching style. Praising a students accomplishments motivates them to higher goals. Each student has different needs. What is good for one is not good for another. I have to be flexible in my teaching. Some students love classical music others love new age. I am willing to try new music, and try to listen to the students. For young beginners of piano, I start with Edna Mae Burnam's Step By Step Book 1, as it begins right away with basic reading of notes and music. From there, I progress into the Faber Piano Adventures Series. Adults will start with the Alfred Adult Piano Course. Voice students are welcome to choose one song each cycle, while I choose two. It's important to me that they get to express themselves and what they like, while also learning new pieces for their repertoire. Read More

I always work with a method book, and have a range of fun books to choose from from beginner to advanced for guitar and piano. I use a separate sheet of paper as a log of each day's lesson at the end to show what we worked on, what to practice, and other notes or positive remarks ( ‘great job’, etc.) With older students I encourage exploring your own musical tastes and learning from the artists you like.
