Thanks to parents who entrusted their childrens education to me, I was inspired to pursue a degree in Music Education from the University of Victoria, BC. Throughout my 30 years teaching career, I have closely worked with students of different age groups and cultural backgrounds in Vancouver (Canada), Chicago Northern Suburbs (Illinois) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). Dennis H. was employed at the historic Marshall Field’s store in Chicago as a piano and keyboard salesman. He attended the Kircher Technical Training Institute in Oak Park, where he acquired certificates in piano tuning and string repair. In 2003, he began operating a piano technician business, Northern Strings Piano Services, located in Racine. His ongoing projects include rebuilding and refinishing pianos for clients from Chicago to Milwaukee. Dennis has been teaching piano since 2001, beginning in Grayslake, and expanding into Kenosha in 2004.  A number of his students have participated in the annual National Guild Piano Playing Auditions, receiving Superior ratings. My voice and piano studio teaching had it genesis in 1985 with a private home studio in Chicago. Since then, I have taught in church programs (choral students working on solo voice) as well as in the university setting (student teaching and TA voice class support). I have also led seminars in Group Voice and Cantor Training for Church and Liturgy and Worship. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.I would love to give my students opportunities to give recitals in public because that is a way to check themselves of what they actually learned from class and also that will gain their confidence and interests of playing piano in public. I then provide several opportunities for the student to practice this new idea or skill in a variety of ways.
