Teaching is not only my career. Teaching should be done by excellent, highly qualified people that want to make an investment in children/adults. My very first piano teacher, Diane, had an incredible impact on me... If the notes weren't right or if the counting was a little wonkey, she rarely let it slide, and she helped me to form habits that were both helpful and advantageous to all my future progress. I am a very respectful, passionate and responsible teacher. I get lots of positive feedback from my students and parents and I have maintained a good relationship with my students who I have taught before. I respect my students, I always let them know my expectations toward their music learning with efficient communication. I am also a strict teacher when if come to music practice, laziness is not allowed in my class. Read More

Each lesson is an event and is taken in a positive, enthusiastic frame of mind, with vigor and spontaneity. Giving praise is extremely important in my teaching, making my students feel intelligent and creative. It is surprisingly constructive, illuminating my ideas of what the student should hold important. Growing as a Suzuki student, I have lived the immersive style of learning by listening to music, and know the learning advantages it provides. Read More

I started teaching lessons when I was 18 at a music business and taught there between 3 to 5 hours a week for about 5 years. For the past 5 years I have been teaching at IU. I have taught many different styles from classical to jazz to rock, etc. and have also watched many great teachers and tried to learn from their methods. I am currently working on a book to teach the notes and fretboard of the guitar that will hopefully be able to help students of any age or experience. Read More

My views on teaching or being an instructor are vast. I evaluate what stage one is at and focus on the easiest ways for a student to understand their instrument and approach the musical side of learning. Every individual is different and their understanding of rhythm, melodies, chord structure, and time signatures can vary even though the fundamental structure of music and theory is relatively the same. I am so excited to see my students grow in their vocal craft. Using correct placement and vocal methods, I hope for all of my students to develop healthy, fluid, and consistency of sound flow! I promise I am patient, kind, empathetic, and I understand that while getting proper vocal technique is important, there is nothing more important than mental health. If a student comes in feeling stressed out or unwell, I will do my best to bring them into a more positive mindset. Read More

For beginners, I generally stick with the Faber Method books, as I enjoy their unity of music theory and practical application more than other method series. It is my goal to remove students from methods as soon as possible- somewhere around early intermediate skill level, so that we may engage with more meaningful repertoire from the 'greats', as well as give the students the tools to take agency over their own repertoire choices, including transcriptions of popular media.
