I am classically trained, and studied classical piano as well as Jazz in college and beyond. I enjoy learning and teaching all types of music, including composition and improvisation. My lessons are not built for me to tell the student what to do, but rather learn how they learn and research the best practices for reaching that student. There is no "cookie cutter" method that works for all students, because everyone learns and comprehends a little bit differently. I remain sensitive to that and patient with my students. For beginners, I typically start with Mayon Cole's EZ Keys for younger children (age 4.5 to 5), and I use manehune (age 6) or level one (age 7-10) or above for elementary school age children. Once the student has progressed and gain confidence in sight reading and rhythm/counting, I will then supplement the curriculum with solo repertoires from other piano curriculum such as Fabor/Fabor or Alfred series (Little Mozart). There is nothing more inspiring and rewarding than watching a student grow. For that reason, I meet students where they are. After an initial assessment of knowledge and skill, I began tailoring lessons for each student individually depending on their skill level. Typical lessons would include a relevant theory mini lesson, teacher playing demonstration, and teacher guided practice.
