Once the students understand the music concepts properly, at the late beginner level I transition them to Nancy and Randall Faber's Piano Adventures. Instruments: Piano Voice Trumpet Recorder French Horn

For brass instrumental students, I generally use the Rubank Method books, focusing on care of the instrument and basic fundamentals. For piano students I use a variety of different method books and am not tied down to any one series. We will also work on scales and the Hannon series For vocal students, I use a series of vocalises, scales and other exercises to strengthen the voice. We will then work on repetroire focusing on what the student would sing at a recital performance. Read More

For young beginners, I have come to love the Bastien Piano Basics Series. It’s fun, and loaded with colorful pictures, which is especially fitting for the little ones! However, I’ve come to find that it’s not a “one size fits all” when it comes to piano methods; I’ve used Faber’s Piano Adventures with a few of my current students, as well as Alfred’s Piano Basics.
